Examination of the Avedik Valley Underground Settlement

To make the most of the weekend, I decided to go for a short walk. When I got home, I realized I had walked 14.3 km. I want to share with you the underground settlement I saw for the first time during this walk.

I can't call it an underground city because I didn't have the chance to go deep inside, but I did see stairs leading down. Therefore, it's definitely a settlement, but I don't know if it's large enough to be called a city; I'll confirm this during future visits. You can see from the photos below that the windows and doors of the settlement are very neatly cut. The settlement as a whole faces south and is built on the slope of a deep valley. During my research in the area, I saw a fountain built with neatly cut stones, which appears to have been renovated later. Also, a section of the road leading to the settlement is paved with neatly cut stones. In my preliminary research inside the settlement, I noticed at least one (probably two) chapel. There's a stepped staircase leading down underground within the settlement; I didn't dare go down it, as it was quite clean and open. Some walls have recesses for storing objects and lime plaster, which is a valuable finding as it indicates the structure was used until relatively recently.
