Karakuyu Hittite Dam

The dam can be reached by turning off the highway between Pınarbaşı district of Kayseri province and Gürün, 30 km after passing Pınarbaşı, towards Karakuyu village. Unfortunately, there are no further signs on the road after turning, making it almost impossible to find the dam this way. We found it by asking the villagers, and I am sharing its exact location below.

The Karakuyu Dam, located immediately north of the Hittite Dam and constructed by the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ), has no connection to the Hittite Dam. This dam, which first entered the literature in 1931 as a result of research by HZ Koşay and HH von der Osten, is said to have an inscription in the Kayseri Museum. Today, the earthen embankment and reservoir area of the dam remain as they were, the sluice gate where the water was released is open, and the carved stone channels built in the area where the water flowed are still in place. Currently, no water flows into the dam, and therefore it is empty. However, a small stream flowing right next to the dam fills another dam built nearby. It would be accurate to say that this stream once flowed into the Hittite Dam. Today, the area around the Hittite Dam, including its interior, sides, and surroundings, is used as farmland and cultivated.

Various online sources state that the dam is very old, was built for irrigation purposes, and is even considered the world's first dam. Below, I am sharing one such source.
