Fork Lake

The lake, accessible via the Hacılar – Kızılören road, can be reached through the Avşar neighborhood. It's impossible to reach by car; it can only be accessed by jeep or on foot. The lake's color is muddy due to the accumulation of water. Wild ducks can be seen in the lake. It's said that the lake's water completely dries up in the autumn months. We met Ramazan, a shepherd grazing his animals by the lake; he spends his entire day by the Çatal lake, tending 5-6 cows on horseback. The area around the lake is parceled out by the residents of Avşar neighborhood and is mostly used for wheat cultivation. Ali Dede, harvesting wheat, has left Istanbul and returned to his beloved village. There are numerous stone-built vineyards along the lake's edge. Located in a place you wouldn't expect to find a lake on maps, this small lake is a must-see.
