Great Burunguz – Subasi Mountains

While exploring this small mountain range, which rises east of the villages of Büyük Bürüngüz and Subaşı (İsgobi, Üsgübü) and has television transmitters at its highest point (Koramaz Mountain), you can see the following historical and cultural assets. These mountains can be considered the eastern walls of Kayseri, if we imagine the city as a basin. Ice-cold water springs from numerous points at the foot of the mountains. Here are some of the places worth seeing during a hike in this region:

Church Mountain: This area is called Church Mountain by the locals, and as you might guess, the reason for this name is the presence of a ruined structure (a church) in the area. We had the opportunity to examine the area closely; numerous ruined columns and arch fragments are found together, but we did not find any evidence that would identify it as a church; it could be one of the ancient temples. The location of the structure was chosen as the summit of the mountain, overlooking the entire region.

Lale Osman: I don't know where the name of this place comes from; we named it that way based on how the local people used to call it. It's on the side of a mountain, and ice-cold water springs from the foot of the rock the area is nestled against. The villagers have planted fruit trees (apricot, walnut, pear) in the area, and there's also a gazebo here. This place, with its incredibly beautiful view, is a wonderful spot to relax.

Bad Water: Located at the end of the valley where the Lale Osman region is situated, this area is called the "bad water fountain." Shepherds call it "bad water" because the fountain is not in good condition.

Kazlar: This area, located at the foot of the mountains east of Subaşı (İsgobi, Üsgübü) village, is called Kazlar. There are many water sources in this region; these sources flow abundantly for 2-3 years, then the water level decreases for a year. We happened to be there during the period when the water was low. Because there is so much water, there are naturally dozens of trees in the area. It's a wonderful place to relax and drink ice-cold water.

Subaşı Cave: Located above Subaşı village, in a sandy area, this cave appears to have formed naturally, but it has also been shaped by human hands over time. It contains chambers, but we couldn't reach the end. We encountered an animal inside the cave, and we believe it's a cave that deserves further investigation.
