Decorated Tombstones – Develi

I came across these tombstones in a cemetery near the tomb of Dev Ali in Yukarı Develi. The cemetery gate read "Ağalar Cemetery," and immediately in front of it was an information sign titled "Ornamental Gravestones." This was the first time I'd encountered this type of tombstone in Anatolia. The stones feature artistic carvings such as water jugs and circular symbols. It's possible to find information about this online, and there's even a thesis on the subject : http://www.belgeler.com/blg/1yyt/kayseri-zamanti-irmai-evresindeki-bezemeli-mezar-talari-ornamental-gravestones-around-zamanti-river-in-kayseri

I think you absolutely must see it when you visit Develi.
